Review on Rutland Chinese Restaurant
Opened on nearby Castle Lane in 1974, this well-liked neighbourhood restaurant is thriving in its new premises. It is now owned by long-serving chef Simon Cheung and his wife, who have developed the place as a family business with a reputation for friendly atmosphere and attractively priced food.
The interior has received several facelifts over the years, and it is currently spread over two floors with ornate Chinese decorative features and lots of intimate booths separated by decorative glass panels. The long menu runs to some 200 dishes with Cantonese cuisine as the main contributor: seafood is a strength and the choice extends to deep-fried squid in chilli and salt, stir-fried scallops with asparagus, and king prawns with yellow bean sauce. Other specialities worth noting are cold shredded chicken with Chinese pickles, stuffed duck with minced prawns in king-do sauce and stir-fried beef with gai lan greens.
