Review on Loch Melfort Hotel, Asknish Bay Restaurant
Jaw-dropping vistas over Asknish Bay towards the Isle of Jura are just part of the appeal of this family-run hotel, which is set in one of the finest locations on Scotland's West Coast. Added to this, stunning Arduaine Gardens (owned by the National Trust for Scotland) are right next door.
Great views and abundant local seafood are the twin attractions in the main restaurant. A menu might open with local shellfish bisque before first courses of ceviche of salmon topped with crème fraîche, Luing langoustines, or honey-roast duck in Waldorf salad. Main courses could take in anything from roast saddle of Morayshire lamb with creamed leeks to steamed monkfish with a warm red wine and herb vinaigrette, while desserts could feature Pavlova with Scottish strawberries alongside baked chocolate pudding topped with fudge sauce. Lighter meals are also available in Skerries Bistro / Café Bar.
