Review on Lodge on the Loch Hotel
Much favoured for romantic stays, this aptly named hotel is just off the main A82 between Glasgow and Inverness, and stands enticingly close to the shores of Loch Linnhe. The old Victorian building has been sympathetically updated while retaining many of its luxuries and original features, and is noted for its top-flight professional hospitality.
There are great lochside views from the windows of the elegantly appointed restaurant, where guests can enjoy dinner with a strong Euro-Asian bias. Tasting plates and assiettes signal that this is overtly complicated, ambitious cooking - hence you might find home-smoked fish with honey and wasabi dip, cucumber and sesame or scallops on potato salad with homemade curry ketchup ahead of best end of Speyside lamb with ginger, onions and roasted peppers on mashed tatties with Szechuan peppercorns or sausage-crusted baked cod with grain mustard velouté.
