Review on Pavillon Montsouris
Pavillon Montsouris is a beautiful époque restaurant situated in Montsouris park in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. It first opened in 1889 and very quickly became known as Le Pavillion du Lac, the Lake Pavillion and through the years has been visited by many of France's distinguished citizens, famous artists, literary greats and political figures.
This wonderful historical building was completely renovated in 2002 by Alain Leonardon in a stunning colonial style with a marvellous conservatory and terrace overlooking the park. During the week it's a popular destination for the city's business people, but at the weekends it is frequented by young and old alike. Choose to dine in the elegant dining room with it's glass canopy and lacquered steel columns and stucco walls featuring plants and animals on sycamore panelling by Aghostino Dos Prazeres. The bronze light fixtures are shaped like palm trees, echoing the leaf-shaped chair backs and there are sycamore Persian screens. On very warm days the terrace is the ideal spot for lunch with it's tranquil setting and lovely views.
Sebastian Dagoneau is head chef and produces a classic French menu that reflects the seasons and the abundance of regional produce. On offer among the starters there might be duck foie gras "au torchon" with cider jelly, apple marmalade and ginger or sheredded crab with herbs, basil squash cream, seafood jelly and lime. Moving on, mains take in supreme of chicken stuffed with mushroom and foie gras, risotto with parmesan and mashed sweet onion or cod with clams, braised vegetables and reduced emulsion. As a finale, consider red fruits soup with rhubarb compote, snow egg with lime and liquorice caramel or chestnut crusty cake flavoured with milk chocolate, apricot slice and reduced citrus fruit juice. The restaurant offers a set priced menu as well as the a la carte option.
