Review on Brasserie Balzar
Brasserie Balzar opened in 1898 and is situated in the historical Latin quarter in the 5th arrondissement of Paris. It was bought by the Flo group who have several establishments in the city, and following protests by loyal patrons they agreed to retain the authenticity of the beautiful décor and menu. It is a small brightly-lit art deco room filled with tables clad in white linen, banquettes and chairs and traditionally dressed waiters in white shirts and long black aprons. It has a lively and bustling atmosphere and is a popular haunt for intellectuals and Sorbonne teachers as it is located next to the university.
The traditional menu includes old favourites such as onion soup, pepper steak, pig's trotters, sauerkraut with ham and sausage and fried calves liver with desserts such as rum baba and millefeuille.
