Review on Le Cinq
Le Cinq restaurant can be found in the famous luxury Hôtel George V steps away from the Champs-Elysées. The hotel was built by Joel Hillman at a cost of $31 million and opened in 1928 in honour of the King of England. Le Cinq is set in an exquisite classic gray and gold dining room decorated by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon in the style of the Grand Trianon at Versailles. Tables are laid with crisp white linen and china and silver that were all created specifically for this legendary hotel. During the summer months the doors are opened to take in the beautiful views of the Hotel's courtyard and garden.
Christian Le Squer mans the stoves using classic French culinary techniques and also embracing newer, lighter cooking styles, with a focus on the freshest and best regional ingredients. Open your account on the frequently changing menu with grilled duck foie gras with sansho pepper, smoked eel, foamy coco beans cream or raw heart of salmon, kabu turnips and wasabi with blue shrimps in a seaweed consommé. Mains could take in back of roasted wild venison with bacon, poivrade sauce with cocoa, chanterelle mushroom ravioli, pineapple, pomegranate or net-fished blue lobster cooked on aromatic salt, civet sauce, claws in ravioli with artichokes, chanterelle mushrooms. Finish with artfully presented desserts of crispy chocolate and mint dessert with peanuts, cocoa sorbet, white mint granita, manjari chocolate or poached pear with tonka beans with crunchy praline, milk jam, Muscatel wine Jelly and pear sorbet.
As you would expect at this two star Michelin restaurant there is an impressive wine list and the service is exemplary.
