Review on Rampsbeck Restaurant at Another Place, The Lake
Formerly the Rampsbeck Country House Hotel, it was relaunched in the summer of 2017 as Another Place, The Lake, the first hotel to open within the Another Place collection. The setting is a big plus, an elegant eighteenth-century country mansion with 18 acres of grounds and gardens overlooking Ullswater.
At the heart of the hotel is the Rampsbeck Restaurant, open for dinner it's a relaxed space with an open kitchen. Alternatively guests can dine in The Living Space, an all day dining venue serving British and European dishes such as fried squid, burgers and fries, mussels, salads, fresh pasta and doorstep sandwiches.
The Rampsbeck restaurant showcases contemporary cuisine alongside sharing plates making excellent use of the local larder. Kick of with starters such as Cumbrian cured ham, bitter leaves and pickled green walnuts or rillette of Lakeland beef, piccalilli, whipped malted butter and treacle bread. Main courses feature charcoal-baked monkfish tail and sauce Maltaise or you may prefer to opt for the bone in rib of Black Angus beef and bone marrow béarnaise served for two people. When it comes to desserts you might be tempted by the bread and butter pudding with Seville orange marmalade glaze or the warm cinnamon rice pudding and poached Victoria plums.
