Review on Moulin Inn & Hotel
Dating from 1695 the original Moulin Inn has seen a lot of changes over the centuries and is now an award-winning hostelry which has returned to its roots: the old fires have been opened up, the stone walls have been carefully exposed, and there are beams from the stables and aged woodwork in the bar. Added to that the Moulin now has its own brewery across the road, producing a fine range of top-drawer real ales including Braveheart and Old Remedial.
The kitchen caters for all-comers, with a repertoire that takes in deep-fried local haggis, tomato and aubergine tartlet, mince 'n tatties, and grilled salmon with lemon and herb butter sauce, followed by homely desserts like raspberry crumble or apple pie.
The hotel itself is run as a distinct and separate venture and is a relaxing and hospitable basecamp at the heart of a little conservation village less than a mile from the centre of Pitlochry (famous for its Theatre).
