Review on The Plockton Hotel
Trademark palm trees and a pretty, shrub-lined shore are just part of the appeal of this National Trust for Scotland village by the shores of Loch Carron. The family-owned Plockton Hotel is at the heart of things, with brilliant views of the bay and the sheltered anchorage out to Eilean Donan castle and the mountains beyond.
Fresh seafood is the kitchen's main strength, with pride of place going to platters of 'Plockton prawns' (aka langoustines direct from the loch), but the choice also extends to bowls of steamed local mussels, seared scallops with basil and garlic, herrings in oatmeal or monkfish and bacon brochettes. Meat eaters can look forward to prime locally reared beef, braised lamb shank and Highland venison (perhaps casseroled with red wine and juniper berries) and there's always something for vegetarians.
As a finale try something like whisky, honey and oatmeal ice cream or sticky toffee pudding. The well chosen, affordable wine list provides respectable back up.
