Review on Chloe's Restaurant
Chloe's Restaurant on the corner of Princess Street and Lockyer Street in Plymouth is located a short stroll from the Theatre Royal. This charming French restaurant is run by husband and wife team, Jo and Didier Franchet, he mans the stoves while she adeptly manages front of house, ensuring that a pleasing relaxed atmosphere prevails. The restaurant has a light and airy feel decked out in neutral tones, with smartly laid tables and a Waldstein Baby Grand Piano and pianist on Thursday to Saturday evenings adding to the inviting ambience.
French born chef Didier looks towards locally sourced and seasonal ingredients for his modern take on French traditional dishes. The menu works its way through starters such as Traditional French Trilogy featuring individual dishes containing foie gras, frogs legs and escargot or maybe Chicken Liver Croustillant, fresh chicken livers wrapped in a fine crispy pastry parcel, baked in the oven and served on a sweet balsamic sauce. Follow on with main courses in the shape of a traditional beef bourguignon, tender beef marinated in a rich red wine sauce with baby onions, mushrooms and herbs, served with fresh tagliatelle or fresh lobster a la nage Sauterne, delicate fresh lobster served without the shell, surrounded by diced vegetables and wine reduction sauce, finished under the grill and served with fluffy white rice. To close the show there are skilfully wrought desserts, artfully displayed on the plate in the mould of home-made zesty lemon tart, served with raspberry foam shot or freshly baked apple in honey and cinnamon butter, topped with Chef Didier's home-made crumble and served with vanilla Bourbon ice-cream.
The food is matched by a thoughtfully chosen wine list offering ample choice across the range, with several options available by the glass.
