Review on Langdon Court Hotel
Once home to Katherine Parr (the sixth wife of Henry VIII), this majestic Tudor mansion has been immaculately preserved as a listed building. It stands in ten acres of intricately landscaped grounds and gardens a short stroll from Wembury beach, the coastal path and the cliffs. Given the grandeur of the setting, it's no surprise that Langdon Court is much sought after for weddings, private events and functions.
Langdons Restaurant provides a suitably atmospheric backdrop for modern menus inspired by the region's produce. Local seafood, organically reared meat and seasonal game all put in an appearance, and the kitchen adds its own twists and eclectic flavours to classic ideas. Tian of local lobster is infused with sweet pickled vegetables and finished with orange dressing, while fillet of brill is accompanied by courgette flower risotto and saffron dressing.
Meat dishes are often in more traditional vein - perhaps roast rack of Loddiswell lamb with char-grilled vegetables and port jus or fillet and blade of West Country beef with cocotte potatoes and Madeira jus, while desserts have featured warm chocolate fondant, lemon cheesecake and the like. Informal meals are also available in the bistro/bar.
