Review on Guildhall Tavern
Despite its rollicking English name, the Guildhall Tavern brings a touch of France to the centre of Poole, and pleases locals and visitors alike with its warm, friendly atmosphere and classic food. In business since 2000, it takes full advantage of its location in the old town, just a couple of minutes' walk from the quay.
Fresh seafood is the kitchen's forte and dishes vary depending on the local catch. Typical offerings might include king scallops in garlic butter, char-grilled sea bass flamed in Pernod and more upbeat offerings such as fillet of organic salmon with stir-fried vegetables and wasabi.
If fish isn't your thing, the menu also promises goats cheese crème brûlée flavoured with basil, rack of Dorset lamb with rosemary and duck breast with mild horseradish cream sauce. Round off with hazelnut meringue or poached pears in red wine with clotted cream.
