Review on Harbour Heights Hotel, Harbar Bistro
‘Contemporary elegance with a classic Rhode Island twist’ is what you can expect in the Harbour Heights Hotel with its Harbar Bistro, a handsomely renovated 1920s hotel, which now struts its stuff as a luxury boutique venue. The interior is awash with specially commissioned artwork and furnishings, and the hotel also boasts spectacular tiered and landscaped terraces with glorious views over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island.
The Harbar Bistro is funkiness personified, and it offers an impressive menu of modern European dishes based on local and faraway ingredients. To start, there might be seared Shetland scallops with aïoli and sea asparagus (samphire) or grilled, honey-glazed preserved duck with soused vegetables and sesame oil. Main courses feature a novel take on coq au vin, as well as tenderloin of Dorset Landrace pig wrapped in basil and Parma ham, and pan-fried sea bass with creamed leek and brown shrimp ravioli, Vermouth and tarragon sauce. For afters, consider plum and lemongrass brûlée or chestnut charlotte with poached pear. Note that Hytes Restaurant is only used for private functions.
