Review on Locanda on the Weir

Sandwiched between Exmoor and the sea, Locanda on the Weir is a truly delightful haven and it makes a heaven-sent setting. The pristine Georgian villa stands right by the water's edge, overlooking Porlock Bay, and it has been fitted out in classic country house style.

There are pleasing views from the windows of the two neatly appointed dining rooms, which are decorated in shades of terracotta and gold. The kitchen is still keen to source local produce wherever possible for its dishes such as Native oysters, natural with shallot and red wine vinegar, followed by a main course of braised beef with root vegetables, creamed potatoes and red wine. There's a choice of skilfully crafted desserts which could include warm chocolate brownie, mascarpone and orange cream, Grand Marnier custard or maybe vanilla pannacotta, poached rhubarb and cardamom syrup.

The wine list has some decent global selections at a fair price and the service team is both friendly and efficient. Should you decide to extend your stay in this lovely area, there are five rooms available.
