Review on Mermaid Kitchen & Bar
Formerly called the Ramore Oriental Diner located by Portrush Harbour, it has been transformed into the Mermaid Kitchen and Bar, a casual, modern venue with spectacular views of the harbour and West Bay Strand. Set on the top floor of the Ramore complex, the light and airy restaurant has a nautical theme with a central bar area.
Kick off with garlic baby prawns served on garlic and tomato bread or opt for one of the sharing plates for two consisting of aromatic Peking duck with steamed pancakes, prawn crackers, cucumber, spring onion and Hoisin and plum sauces. When it comes to main courses, there's a good selection of grilled fish, together with meat dishes such as bang bang chicken biryani accompanied by rice, dips and pitta bread or maybe the rack of lamb with pomme Anna, minted peas and celery might be more your choice. For the sweet-toothed there's salted caramel waffles with ice cream or banoffee tarte tatin with mascarpone cream.
The whole Ramore complex also includes an Italian pizza and pasta bar called Coast, Neptune and Prawn serving Asian dishes, a bistro with a wood burning grill, the Ramore Wine Bar and the Harbour Bar, reckoned to be the oldest in Ireland.
