Review on Cottons
A fixture of the local scene for more than two decades, Cottons continues to please the punters with its animated tropical vibes and punchy Caribbean food. The interior is divided up into three separate dining rooms named after Caribbean islands (St Lucia, Margarita and Barbados), each designed and decorated in a very distinctive style.
The menu promises lots of colourful specialities with bold flavours and contrasts: there's sweet potato and callaloo tart with coconut crème fraîche, Boston jerk pork with yams, rice and peas, 'coq au rhum' and grilled whole snapper topped with garlic lime butter, fried plantain and roasted pumpkin wedges - as well as salt cod fritters, legendary curried goat and lots of sweet stuff such as candied ginger and lime brûlée to round things off.
The effervescent Jamaica Rhum Shack Bar is famed for its energetic atmosphere, cool reggae sounds and an awesome collection of more than 200 rums from the Caribbean and elsewhere. There's three other branches now at Shoreditch, Notting Hill and Vauxhall.
