Review on The New Inn
Set in the delightful village of Kidmore End, just 5 miles to the north of Reading, The New Inn has recently undergone an extensive makeover. Drawing on a collection of top notch suppliers the kitchen delivers a good selection of gastro pub dishes from traditional liver 'n' bacon or 'New Inn' cottage pie to a more contemporary smoked salmon & fresh crab brulee or if you are thinking vegetarian, Vegetable Wellington. The specials tend to focus on seafood kicking off with perhaps Cajun spiced calamari & crayfish tails and leading onto gilt head bream or Scottish salmon supreme. Sunday lunch sees a couple of traditional roasts added to proceedings while the bar menu continues to draw the crowds for lunch during the week.
The blackboarded desserts menu could include a choice of favourites like sticky toffee pudding, Eton mess or apple crumble while the sensibly priced wine list takes in a good selection of new world offerings.
And after all that, is there room at the inn? Six stunning rooms featuring king sized beds, plasma televisions, internet access and even one with a walk-in wet room shower and heated flooring; the room rates are not just amazing but ridiculously good value.
