Review on Oslo Court
The grande dame of old-world French restaurants in London, Oslo Court occupies the ground floor of a block of flats (from which it takes its name) where St John's Wood meets leafy Regent's Park. For more than three decades it has ignored fashions and plied its trade against a backdrop of salmon-pink walls, impeccably laundered pink napery and pink-patterned curtains.
As for the menu, most of the customers (as well as the staff) probably know it off by heart. Here you will find tureens of watercress soup, devilled whitebait, Dover sole, steak Diane flambéed at the table, profiteroles, crème caramel and all those other desserts from trolleys gone by. They serve duck the old way with orange sauce as well as veal Holstein with fried egg, anchovies and capers, plus a whole host of specials that are never properly listed but always available.
