Review on The Golden Lion
Famous for its ghostly sightings, the picturesque Welsh village of Rossett also plays host to this attractive roadside pub (which also comes complete with its resident spectre). Otherwise, the Golden Lion is known for its good hospitality, interesting drinks and wide-ranging food.
The interior is an eclectic mix of old and new, and the menu follows suit, by offering everything from toad-in-the-hole and grilled Dover sole to seared scallops with carrot purée, pancetta and vanilla fish cream or braised pork belly with Toulouse sausage cassoulet. There are also steaks from the char grill, assorted salads (crab and Waldorf, say), decadent lobster and chips, plus desserts ranging from glazed lemon tart to banoffi cheesecake. Well-chosen wines. from unusual sources.
