Review on Soar Mill Cove Hotel

The Makepeace family are justly proud of their hotel, which is beautifully placed in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty'. The sandy beaches of Soar Mill Cove are just a stroll away, and all around there are uninterrupted views of the South Devon landscape.

The stylish Sependipity Restaurant takes full advantage of the location, with plenty to admire from its windows. Locally landed seafood features strongly on the seasonal menus, with lobster topping the bill (try it served with sautéed queen scallops and saffron sauce). Fillet of local beef is another perennial favourite, and the kitchen also conjures up seared veal with ginger and lime butter as well as breast of chicken with wild mushrooms and haricot beans. To finish, choose between blackberry and apple pie or an savoury such as Cornish Yarg cheese soufflé.

We apologise that Lobsters are illusive creatures and likewise fishermen can sometimes resist the temptation of high seas to coax them to our table, even when the whole of Salcombe is clamouring for their presence. Of course you may find some elsewhere but occasionally their passports needs checking!
