Review on Dalesman Country Inn
The Dales Way and the Cumbrian Cycle Way run straight past the door of this sixteenth-century inn under the bracken-clad fell of Winder, making it handy for idyllic riverside walks along Dee or hikes up on Howgill Fells.
Lunch is a simple affair of sandwiches, pies and the like. Evening brings a choice of a bar menu or the full restaurant works, but you can choose from either menu wherever you are seated.
The bar menu is a familiar run through ham hock terrine, char-grilled steaks, slow-roast lamb shank, pasta and so forth. On the full menu, you can expect starters like tiger prawns with coriander and tomato, or smoked salmon and caper salad, then pan-fried Gressingham duck breast with celeriac mash and plums or monkfish wrapped in bacon with mustard cream sauce, followed by orange crème brûlée or chocolate and Baileys terrine.
