Review on The Green
There's no village green here anymore, but verdant paintwork, window boxes and an old stone façade help to give this attractive neighbourhood restaurant an appealing outlook. The building itself is a Grade II-listed property with giant wood beams and mighty flagstones.
Chef patron Sasha Matkevich delivers a concise repertoire of stylishly presented and attractive modern dishes based around sound local ingredients. The results are appealing ideas like honey-glazed confit of duck with Savoy cabbage, baked quince and redcurrants or Cornish brill with mussels, saffron, artichokes and thyme. Some simpler offerings such as grilled lemon sole also put in an appearance, and desserts could range from lemon meringue roulade with raspberry coulis to iced honey and Amaretto parfait with mangoes and passion fruit. The reasonably priced wine list offers plenty of choice and variety.
