Review on The Waterhouse Restaurant
The Waterhouse Restaurant is set in a quiet location just north of Shoreditch on Regent's Canal, an eco-friendly venture owned by the Shoreditch Trust, a charitable organisation that works towards addressing the problems of local disadvantages. It also owned Acorn House in King's Cross, but has now amalgamated its social enterprise into one restaurant serving fresh seasonal dishes using products that are sourced locally, with a commitment to promoting sustainability. The restaurant has a light and airy décor with large windows to take in the views of nearby canal, with outside seating when the weather is warm.
To start you might go for spiced smoked mackerel with pickled cucumber and a cherry tomato dressing or soft shell crab with lemon and chilli, followed by a main course of chargrilled chicken with spring onion mash, finished with a coconut, chilli and peanut sauce or garlic and chilli cockles, linguini in a beurre blanc and parsley sauce. Desserts are equally inviting ideas with an apple tarte tatin served with vanilla ice cream or a Bailey and hazelnut praline. There is an attractively priced wine list with plenty of offerings by the glass.
