Review on Imperial China
An enchanting courtyard complete with a little bridge and a pretty pool filled with carp creates a striking first impression for visitors to this Soho Chinese restaurant. Inside, it is equally elegant with swathes of dark wood panelling, gold chairs and light streaming in.
The lengthy menu majors in the Cantonese classics, flavours are authentic and seafood is naturally a strong suit: steamed crab with white wine, eel in black bean sauce, grilled black cod in sweet vinegar sauce, and lobster with ginger and noodles are typical. Otherwise, expect impressive renditions of crispy aromatic duck, chicken in lemon sauce, char siu pork and the like.
Dim sum are also worth trying, and the daytime menu spans everything from scallop and prawn dumplings and stuffed beancurd roll to fried cuttlefish cakes and turnip paste pudding. Imperial China is now a favourite destination for karaoke aficionados, with a swanky private room specially geared up for entertainment.
