Review on Glazebrook House Hotel
Once a gentleman's residence, this classically designed eighteenth-century house stands in delightful gardens on the fringes of Dartmoor National Park. It is a great favourite with walkers, tourists, outdoor types and those with artistic inclinations. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment with Alice in Wonderland themed bedrooms designed by Manchester Timothy Oulton.
Heading the kitchen is award winning chef Ben Palmer, whose modern British menu makes excellent use of the local larder. Typical offerings on the carte include starters in the shape of dressed local crab, avocado, pink grapefruit, hazelnuts and dressed rocket or chicken liver parfait, crostinis, onion marmalade and watercress. Follow on with main courses of pan fried Loch Duart salmon, crisp potatoes, sprouting broccoli paired with seaweed butter
sauce or for meat lovers there's Creedy carver duck breast, crispy duck leg, Boulangere potato, gem lettuce, peas and sherry gravy. Among the desserts look for baked chocolate brownie, Langage thunder and lightning ice cream, caramel or vanilla pannacotta, spiced banana, rum caramel syrup and mango sorbet. Guests can also dine at the Chef's Table, a farm style kitchen adjacent to the dining room which will also be offering cooking classes and demonstrations.
