Review on The Camelot
Fans of Arthurian legends might well be attracted to this cracking solid-stone village pub, which stands close to the foot of the prehistoric hill fort known as Cadbury Castle and the South Cadbury Environs Project. Needless to say, it's also a godsend for walkers and outdoor types as well as enthusiasts of mythic legends.
Devotees of English farmhouse cheese might also make a beeline for the pub, since it's now owned and run by Jamie and Zizi Montgomery – legendary producers of some of the finest Cheddar (and other specialist cheeses) in the land. Naturally, their cheeseboard is second to none and is a major attraction – along with real ales, serious wines and a menu that lives firmly in the present day.
Typical dishes from the regularly changing repertoire might include a warm salad of local pheasant and partridge with black pudding and sauté potatoes, Somerset pork chop with baked apple, cabbage, roast potatoes and a sauce laced with Somerset cider and Calvados, and fillet of sea bass with tapenade stuffing.
