Review on Good Earth
Situated just a stroll from Harrods and the Knightsbridge highlife, the Good Earth has been feeding a well-heeled crowd of shoppers, locals and tourists for years, and has outlived many of its neighbours. It is a smart, old-fashioned place done out in opulent oriental style; choose the animated ground-floor dining room or seek solace in the calming basement.
The food is a careful mix of classic Cantonese favourites with a few more esoteric specialities for good measure. Typical dishes might include lettuce-wrapped crispy lamb with sweet plum sauce, roast duck on a bed of pickled vegetables, Hunan-style beef with spring onions, garlic and rice wine, steamed sea bass and deep-fried beancurd with minced pork. Two-course set lunches are excellent value, given the location. There's branches at 143 The Broadway, Mill Hill, London NW7 and 14–18 High Street, Esher.
