Review on Memories of India
The original of a London-based group of Indian restaurants, Memories has been doing Kensington proud for a good many years, and is noted for its atmosphere as well as its food. It's a fine-looking place with a relaxed, modern ambience, evocative hand-carved wooden panels, luxuriant greenery and a delightfully airy conservatory dining room at the back.
The lengthy menu stays in mostly familiar territory, with a strong selection of tikkas and tandooris (check out the whole pomfret and juicy akbari lamb chops) lining up alongside familiar curries ranging from chicken jalfrezi to Kashmiri korma and king prawn masala. Elsewhere, salmon samosas and 'creative dishes' such as creamy lobster malai served with saffron rice and aubergines or paneerwala murg (chicken breast tossed with paneer cheese, spring onions and ginger) add a touch of variety to proceedings.
