Review on Madhu's
Sister restaurant to The Brilliant in nearby Western Road, Madhu's takes its name from the owners' father. After a fire destroyed the original premises in 2003, it rose again sporting a brand new look and a glossy up-to-the-minute menu.
The mood is chic and the food continues to hit the button like few other Indian restaurants manage to do. Some old favourites are still on show meat samosas, tandoori lamb chops, butter chicken (a classic dish made to Madhu's family recipe) and murgh methi with fenugreek but it's worth looking out for some of the recently introduced specialities.
Rarah boti consists of 'succulent morsels of lamb' with freshly cracked pepper, lemon and chilli), tandooris include a version with salmon, and there's a special dish of chicken simmered with karela (bitter gourd). Tilapia a freshwater fish native to Kenya also receives due consideration in different guises. Details such as rice and breads are exemplary, and it's worth ordering kulfi or carrot halwa to finish. The wine list has been assembled with thought and care.
