Review on Lussmanns
Enjoying the same success as Lussmanns in Hertford, Lussmanns St Albans is the locals' fish & grill restaurant providing freshly prepared, great tasting food, with regionally sourced ingredients from the UK's best artisan suppliers and dedicated to looking after all the family. It occupies three floors (with a gallery right at the top) in the old part of the city, adjacent to the Roman Abbey and Cathedral.
The kitchen cares about ingredients. Free range local Label Anglais chicken, award-winning Aberdeenshire breed beef, sustainable fish that is kind to the sea and great tasting traditionally bred local free-range pork are all central to the Lussmanns plan. Salads, pasta and grills are the mainstays of the upbeat menu, which aims to please all-comers. Typical offerings might include baked Camembert fondue (for 2) rustic French bread, pickles & free range salami followed by line caught yellow fin tuna (cooked rare ) with caper & shallot potato cake or Woburn farm-assured pork belly sautéed in marsala served with garlic mash & crackling.
Some lighter dishes are added to the repertoire at lunchtime like Lussmanns traditional fishcake with baby spinach & beurre blanc or a wrap of 21 day aged home counties rump steak & roasted onion with Dijonnaise. 'Fish and Chip Fridays' feature line-caught British Pollock, house-made chips and mushy peas. Organic juices and long drinks are alternatives to the concise modern wine list.
