Review on Knightor Winery & Restaurant
Knightor, an award winning winery and restaurant is a little off the beaten track set in four acres above St Austell, a short drive from the famous Eden Project. Housed within an historic farm building, originally a threshing barn, the interior has been sympathetically restored creating a fashionable and rustic dining room. Comfy high backed chairs are set against wooden tables laid with red candles and matching napkins, and there's a sunny courtyard for dining al fresco.
As you might expect Cornish produce looms large on the menu, but the kitchen mixes Mediterranean themes and techniques for its dishes, witness Cornish mackerel with a celeriac and chilli rémoulade or fresh pea and Parma ham risotto. Main courses follow the theme with sesame crusted whole seabass, sweet potato and coconut purée, Spring green, baby corn and red pepper stir fry or Moroccan vegetable tajine. To conclude there are desserts such as coffee crème brulée paired with cinnamon doughnuts or lemon tart with raspberry sorbet.
There's an excellent wine list to complement food, including some lovely choices from their own winery, all served at the optimum perfection from their state of the art Enomatic machines. In season you can make an afternoon of it by taking a tour of the winery and Knightor’s sample vines
