Review on Avenue Restaurant & Bar
Plumb in the middle of well-heeled St James's, the Avenue Restaurant & Bar has been relaunched with new interiors and serving New American cuisine. The restaurant has been transformed by the critically acclaimed Russell Sage Studio, the décor is reminiscent of a Manhattan loft space featuring eclectic modern art and design features. Taking centre stage is the stunning illuminated chandelier sparkling with wine glasses situated above the central Decanting Bar, perfect for a glass of wine from the new-to-the-UK Coravin wine system, which allows diners the opportunity to taste a variety of prestige wines by the glass or 'pail' at their table.
The kitchen sends out signature dishes in the shape of clam chowder in sour dour with Littleneck clams and paper bag 'crumbled' bay crackers amongst the starters. Main courses usher in a sharing dish of Blythburgh pork, pecan cabbage and barbecue sauce or Stone bass, spicy kale and hazelnut butter. Desserts bring on board such delights as donut holes with cinnamon sugar or key lime sundae.
The wine list compiled by sommelier Andres Ituarte, previously of Lutyens restaurant features 200 bins offering an impressive array of different notes and bodies to suit any preference.
