Review on Caxton Grill
The Caxton Grill is set in the St Ermin's Hotel which has recently undergone a thirty million pound refurbishment, transforming it into a de-luxe four star property. The stylish restaurant serves modern European dishes with an emphasis on local sourced seasonal and sustainable products. Their signature dishes are prepared on a Josper grill which gives the meat and fish a unique smoky, charcoal flavour.
Following the departure of Adam Handling who left to set up his own restaurant, Alexander Boyd has been appointed Executive Chef whose previous position was Head Chef at The Mansion House, the Lord Mayor's official residence. Open your account with smoked haddock chowder, creamed leeks, poached quail egg or pan fried lamb’s sweetbreads, girolles, runner beans, spicy beef sausage before a main course from the Josper grill of Barnsley lamp chop from Cornwall served with caponata and herb purée or from Norfolk a whole lobster served with honey, garlic and cream sauce. Honey doesn't come more local than this, they have their own 75,000 Buckfast bees on their rooftop which are used in their cooking, including their homemade chocolates. Caxton Grill has compiled a concise fairly priced but varied wine list, with many offerings available by the glass. The restaurant has been awarded three prestigious Rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide.
The Caxton Terrace with its picturesque views over the tree-line courtyard is the perfect place for pre-dinner cocktails and also offers a selection of bar snacks and sharing plates.
