Review on Thornbury Hall Rasoi
Tipped as 'the ideal wind-down finish to a hectic day at Alton Towers' by one Mobile Food Guide user, Thornbury Hall Rasoi is something of a curiosity - an opulent, family-friendly Indian restaurant in a sumptuous Grade-II listed Georgian stately home. Situated just three miles from the world-famous tourist attraction, it has been a local hit since owners Mohammed and Parveen Siddique converted the Hall in the early 1990s.
The elegance and character of the mansion still remains, although the dining room is now a mix of Bollywood glitz and Mogul exoticism - complete with relics, artefacts, a huge Chinese urn, crystal chandeliers and a starlight effects. The vast 90-dish menu offers a mix of Indian and Pakistani cuisine, including house specialities such as karhai murgh pasanda (chicken fillets marinated in spices and yoghurt) or the sizzling hot karhai lahori chaska. Vegetarians are not forgotten, children have their own mini menu and the Sunday buffet is outstanding value.
