Review on The Porch House
Located in picturesque Stow on the Wold, The Porch Inn formerly known as The Royalist Hotel, re-opened in September 2013 after a complete refurbishment programme by the Brakspear group of pubs. Claiming the title 'England's oldest inn', this venerable hostelry can trace its lineage back to 947AD and was originally used as a refuge for lepers. The Grade II-listed building still shows its ancestry with 1,000-year-old beams, a medieval frieze and 'witch's marks' etched into the ancient fireplace
The kitchen sources locally for ingredients wherever possible and is open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. There are thirteen stylish bedrooms available should you wish to extend your stay and visit some of the many attractions in the area.
The Porch House is also featured in: Michelin Guide, AA Guide
