Review on Terroirs Wine Bar & Restaurant
A mightily impressive 25-page drinks booklet is a star attraction at this recently opened wine bar-cum-restaurant, which puts on a patriotic Gallic show with its predictable pictures, advertising posters, functional wooden furniture and French chansons warbling the background.
Manning the stoves is Michael Chacinski, who was previously head chef at Terroirs' sister restaurant Soif. The kitchen delivers a raft of tempting ideas ranging from soft white polenta with wild mushrooms, Lincolnshire smoked eel with celeriac rémoulade or piperade basquaise with chorizo to bavette with shallots and red wine, hare ragoût or braised duck and salsify pie. Sicilian lemon posset and crêpes doused in salted caramel are standout desserts. The wine list roams far and wide in search of quality, although it has special affection for 'natural' wines from organic and biodynamic producers; mark ups are very friendly.
