Review on Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe, Trevelyan Restaurant
Built in 1866, the Hallmark Welcombe Hotel with its Trevelyan Restaurant is a magnificent Jacobean-style mansion standing in 157 acres of glorious grounds and landscaped parkland on the outskirts of Stratford upon Avon. The hotel is noted for its grand lounge, which is a fine sight with its original oak panelling, chandeliers and marble fireplace; it also boasts some of the most impressive leisure facilities in the Midlands, including a luxurious spa and expansive golf course.
Diners can marvel at the beautiful Italianate gardens, fountains and waterfalls from the windows of the ornate Trevelyan Restaurant. The kitchen deals in a mix of exciting contemporary dishes and re-worked classics, kicking off with - say - carpaccio of beef with spiced pear and Tequila dressing or seared smoked salmon with lemon and herb risotto. Main courses might range from sea bass with artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomato fricassée and langoustine bisque to loin of Charlecote Park venison with braised red cabbage, parsnip purée and bitter chocolate sauce, while desserts might feature warm rhubarb clafoutis with clotted cream ice cream.
