Review on La Parilla

'The J Shed on the SA1 Development' is hardly the most romantic address on earth: in reality, this is a fantastic Grade II-listed grain warehouse on Swansea Bay waterfront which has been transformed into a vibrant new eating venue. Daniel Tercero (who also runs La Braseria and La Prensa in the town) is the driving force behind the project – and the style is instantly appealing.

Inside, it's been given a swanky Conran-style makeover, with heavyweight contemporary design features and lots of cool touches. As with La Braseria, everything is on show, from counters laden with fresh seafood and prime cuts of meat to big fridges full of wine bottles. Centrepieces could be anything from whole sea bass baked in salt or Moroccan spiced cod to char-grilled fillet of beef, suckling pig or venison in sherry sauce. Start with local laverbread and cockles, half-a-dozen oysters or fishcakes, and finish with something old-fashioned like profiteroles.

    Disappointed

Birthday occasion mid week set dinner menu. Poor service, no one explained that you had to look at a board and the staff take your choice from there. Why can't they use the waiter who came around with the napkins? Starters I did not expect the mackerel to be warmed up! Cajun Chicken not exceptional. 3 of us had braised beef which was nicely done but the accompanying veg was poor choice and not much of it. The house wine was good, right temp but expensive. Very disappointed would not visit again.
