Review on The Boxing Hare
Easily found alongside the A361 between Chipping Norton and Banbury, the chic, stone-built The Boxing Hare, formerly The Masons Arms was once a Masonic lodge before becoming a hostelry. These days it is in the capable hands of Antony Griffith Harris and his partner Stacey Elder.
Locally sourced ingredients provide most of the building blocks for the fixed-price lunch menu and the a la carte dinner menu, which are topped up with an assortment of daily specials. Leading the kitchen is Nicholas Anderson whose menu make the most of the seasonal larder for dishes along the lines of duck liver and foie gras parfait served with onion jam and toast, followed by a main course of monkfish scampi, string chips, seasonal salad and sauce gribiche. Proceedings close in style with desserts such as vanilla cheesecake with champagne rhubarb or iced peanut butter parfait, honeycomb and caramelised banana.
