Review on Massimo Restaurant & Oyster Bar
Massimo Restaurant & Oyster Bar is set in the luxurious Corinthia Hotel, just steps away from Trafalgar Square. It takes its name from celebrated chef Massimo Riccioli who originally opened the restaurant, but it's now overseen by Executive chef Garry Hollihead, alongside the original kitchen team.
The dining room designed by renowned architect David Collins is a sumptuous affair with soaring ceilings, towering Corinthian columns, textured oak panelling and rich fabrics.
The Mediterranean menu focuses on ultra-fresh seafood, oysters, sea urchins, fish, shellfish and lobsters, sourced locally where possible and committed to promoting sustainability, ensuring that all ingredients used are of the finest quality. There's a selection of crudo delicacies such as grilled octopus with carrots, cherry tomatoes, potatoes and aioli, followed by main courses of roasted monkfish wrapped in aubergine with lentils, pumpkin and orange sauce or sea bass in lemon sauce with crispy red prawns and green beans. For the carnivores among you there's rib eye with bone marrow, potatoes, mushrooms and rosemary. To finish desserts provide an enticing mix of flavours as in a walnut and pear tart served with rosemary yogurt ice cream or maybe chocolate mousse filled with mascarpone panna cotta.
There is an extensive wine list with not much under £30, but there are several options by the glass. Service is well-pitched and there is a sophisticated ambience to the proceedings.
