Review on Mint Leaf
Seriously subdued lighting sets the tone in the groovy Mint Leaf basement bar and restaurant close to London's theatreland, and the entire space is a remarkable feat of contemporary design. Much of the culinary inspiration comes from the north of the Sub-continent, but the kitchen has its own take on traditional themes. Lean meat, poultry and seafood are the main components, while grilling, steaming and roasting keep the healthy nutritional balance intact.
Steamed grouper wrapped in a pandan leaf, minced rabbit roll with cardamom, or honey and tamarind-glazed jumbo quail with tomato salsa throw down the gauntlet before steamed whole gilthead bream with carom seed and fascinating meatless possibilities such as lotus stem dumplings with cottage cheese, dried figs and cashew nuts. Like the menu, the wine list is notable for its eye-watering prices.
The spectacularly long Mint Leaf bar is a livewire venue where you can pick from a mind-boggling list of 1,000 cocktails, 500 spirits and a short menu of fashionable Indian nibbles. Live jazz on Friday evenings.
