Review on The Portrait Restaurant
Famed for its awesome views of Trafalgar Square and the London skyline (ask for a window table when booking) The Portrait Restaurant is a family-friendly venue par excellence, catering for hordes of visitors, business types, tourists and art-lovers.
Lunch is the main event (with slightly more ambitious evening meals added on Thursdays and Fridays). The kitchen offers its own take on re-invented British cuisine with eclectic overtones, serving home-made black pudding with scallops, apple and vanilla compote alongside roast fillet of cod with 'bashed' potatoes. crispy bacon and pea cream.
Elsewhere, other influences might show up in the shape of pavé of tuna with vegetable crudités and wasabi mayonnaise or risotto of summer leeks and asparagus, while puds span everything from lemon cheesecake with blueberry compote to banana and chocolate fudge spring rolls with hot chocolate sauce.
