Review on Bisque, Lochgreen House
Thirty acres of immaculate grounds, woodland and gardens surround this genteel, handsomely appointed country house with views out to Ailsa Craig. Evening meals are served in the high vaulted Bisque restaurant, a luxuriously appointed room overlooking the lovely manicured gardens.
The food matches the setting and menus are liberally strewn with prime Scottish ingredients - plus a few imported luxuries. To begin, you might see fillet of sea bream on couscous with roasted cashews or crapaudine of quail with Roquefort and walnut salad. A soup or sorbet generally comes next, ahead of medallions of beef with pearl barley risotto, caramelised parsnips and red wine or a duo of duckling with Puy lentils, fried apple and prune jus. For dessert, think lemon and ginger tart with coconut ice cream or warm milk chocolate tart.
Lunch is an altogether lighter affair, generally served in the adjoining brasserie. The wine list favours France, but also packs in plenty of interesting stuff from other parts of the globe.
