Review on Tuddenham Mill
Tuddenham Mill is a unique boutique hotel and restaurant that has undergone a sympathetic refurbishment by Agellus Hotels, who have created the perfect country retreat in the Suffolk countryside.
There has been a mill at Tuddenham for around one thousand years and it continued grinding up to 1954, then remained derelict until 1972 when it was converted into a restaurant. That also closed for a number of years until purchased in 2005 by the current owners. The meticulous renovation was undertaken by a team of architects, engineers and craftsmen working closely with planners and conservation officers to ensure that the building was brought bang up to date, without losing any of its historical integrity. The modern design works well with the original features for a contemporary rustic decor, featuring old oak beams and sleek glass, together with the restored cast iron water wheel, which has been brought back to life through the use of atmospheric lighting and stylish glass walls.
Following the departure of Paul Foster, the kitchen is now in the capable hands of Chef/Patron Lee Bye, who previously worked with Paul for two years as his sous chef before leaving to pursue his career as Head Chef. Open your account with pig's head terrine, chorizo jam, watercress and beetroot or skate wing, potato juice, pine nuts and sea vegetables, before the main event of their popular cumin lamb rump and shoulder, cauliflower, lentils, cucumber and yoghurt or salted hake, tapioca, clams, squash, smoked garlic and paprika. Close the show with tempting desserts such as banana cake, white chocolate and coriander ice cream or bitter chocolate tart, carrot granita and caraway. The best seats in the house are the much sought after window tables, with views of the Mill Stream and there are fifteen luxurious bedrooms should you decide to extend your stay.
