Review on Upchers Restaurant at the Dales Country House Hotel
The prize-winning gardens and grounds of Sheringham Park (owned by the National Trust) surround this imposing Grade II-listed country house within striking distance of the coast. Take a stroll out to the beautiful summerhouse and around the secret wooded glades to hunt for the pond designed to resemble the county of Norfolk.
Formal meals are served in Upchers Restaurant, a wood-panelled dining room crowned by a magnificent carved oak inglenook. You might begin with wild mushroom and walnut soup or mille-feuille of scampi and crayfish tails in spinach and white wine sauce before slow-braised venison steak in mulled wine with red cabbage and sweet potato mash or steamed suprême of sea bass with julienne of vegetables, pumpkin oil and new potatoes. Desserts might include iced mandarin and Cointreau soufflé and the wine list includes some very decent classic vintages.
