Review on The Queens Arms
A handy bolt-hole for locals, travellers and tourists alike, the revamped Queens Arms is within easy reach of Victoria station and nearby attractions. It's a delightful place with a bustling ground-floor bar and a pretty little dining room approached via a winding staircase.
Menus change each day depending on the market and the mood of the kitchen, but you might kick off with crab tart, wild venison carpaccio with walnut and horseradish cream, or a bowl of English onion soup with home-baked bread. Mains take in cheeseburgers and seafood platters alongside the likes of whole plaice with samphire and cherry tomatoes or Blackface lamb cutlets with Puy lentils, Savoy cabbage and rösti. English cheeses make a good finish or you could try something comfortingly sweet such as apple crumble or sticky toffee pudding.
Lunches for around a fiver are an unbeatable local deal, and there are generally a couple of real ales on handpump alongside some reasonably priced global wines.
