Review on Five Arrows Hotel
Originally built in 1887 by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild, The Five Arrows Hotel in Waddesdon has a charming baroque exterior with turrets, gables and balconies, and inside there are several civilised dining rooms with rug strewn wood or stone floors, antique tables, and pictures from Lord Rothschild's collection.
Lunch or dinner at the Five Arrows is a relaxed, informal experience, with imaginative menus which are changed frequently. The style can best be described as a combination of traditional English foods and Mediterranean cuisine, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients plus garden herbs to influence the menu. There are also blackboard specials and lighter lunchtime meals or ploughman's lunches. Vegetarian dishes are always included.
The Rothschild family's association with wine is reflected in a list which features vintages from Rothschild vineyards in Portugal and Chile, as well as the famous châteaux Lafite and Mouton in Bordeaux.
