Review on The Bull Hotel
Nesting in a corner of Wargrave High Street, the Bull is a 600-year-old former coaching house that now serves as a popular local hotel and restaurant. Exposed timbers, cosy nooks and crannies, a mighty open fire and even a resident ghost create just the right atmospheric mood, and there's a secluded walled garden for alfresco meals.
Food is served in three linked dining areas, and the kitchen delivers an easy mix of familiar staples (think cod and chips, curries and sizzling steaks) alongside more upbeat offerings along the lines of deep-fried Brie with cider and apple chutney or duck breast with blueberry and port sauce. Comforting puds such as steamed jam sponge with custard round things off. Sunday lunch is a leisurely, all-day affair at bargain prices.
