Review on The Wavendon Arms
A godsend for the citizens of Wavendon, Woburn Sands and beyond, this Victorian village pub (formerly the Leathern Bottle) has been given a thorough makeover, and now comes complete with log-burning hearths, deep leather seating and eye-catching teak furniture; it also has the bonus of a superb garden for al fresco meals.
The fashionable menu aims for ‘comfort appeal’ and it provides an easily accessible run through 'sharing plates' of mezze and tapas, 'little dishes' (crab cakes with mango and coriander salsa, caramelised onion and goats' cheese tart) plus 'leaves' (upbeat salads including crispy duck with watercress, mooli and plum sauce). Pizzas from the wood-fired oven are also a big attraction, along with pasta dishes and specialities from the grill and rotisserie: try Moroccan lamb cutlets with saffron potatoes, chorizo, peas and mint or steak bavette with garlic butter and frites. The wine list offers sound drinking at reasonable prices, with plenty available by the glass.
