Review on Bay Horse Inn
There's something of an Anglo-French alliance about this vibrant country pub/restaurant not far from Wetherby. It's also an inn of two halves, with an antique dresser neatly marking the dividing line between the bar and rustically elegant dining room. Fresh flowers, candles and chic well-dressed tables create just the right atmosphere, and the kitchen is on-the-ball.
Seafood shows up strongly on the lengthy handwritten menu and the list of daily specials: look for tempura oysters, seared scallops with mushy peas and rocket or salmon fillet stuffed with king prawn mousse, as well as gutsy fish stew. Meat eaters might prefer local venison, calf's liver, orange-stuffed confit of Yorkshire lamb or Gressingham duck with Wakefield rhubarb sauce, while desserts are mostly well-tried staples like sticky toffee pudding or chocolate brownie.
At lunchtime, you can also get handsome sandwiches filled with anything from Brie and bacon to couscous with plum chutney. The Bay Horse has a very decent wine list, with ample choice by the glass.
